Fugate Description & Criteria

Plaque Text:

In Memory of Jennifer Leah Fugate, Aug. 11, 1972 – July 27, 1986

Jennifer Fugate was a 14 year old swimmer for the Ringgold Tiger Sharks, when she died of viral myacarditis in the summer of 1986, just days before the City Meet.

In addition to being one of her team’s strongest swimmers, she was one of its best leaders. She faithfully attended practice and meets, and always gave 110% at each. She always cheered her teammates on and congratulated fellow swimmers at the end of a tough race with a gracious smile, win or lose. She loved swimming more than anything!!

This award was established in 1987 by CASL and has evolved to include a scholarship for a senior Boy/Girl nominated by their coaches that exemplify Jennifer’s winning spirit, leadership, and dedication to swimming for his or her team. She was a loved and cherished daughter, sister, and friend. She is still missed more than words can say. Her family wishes to thank the entire CASL family for continually honoring Jennifer, as well as deserving swimmers in her memory.
